Range qualification for the Texas LTC:
A total of 50 rounds are fired during the range qualification test. To pass, you must score 70% (175 out of 250 points). The target is a human-shaped silhouette measuring 45 by 24 inches. All shooting is from the ready position; no holster shooting or readying your gun from the concealed position is allowed.
3 yard line – 20 shots
1 shot in 2 seconds, 5 times
2 shots in 3 seconds, 5 times
5 shots in 10 seconds, once
7 yard line – 20 shots
5 shots in 10 seconds, once
1 shot in 3 seconds, 5 times
2 shots in 4 seconds, once
3 shots in 6 seconds, once
5 shots in 15 seconds, once
15 yard line – 10 shots
2 shots in 6 seconds, once
3 shots in 9 seconds, once
5 shots in 15 seconds, once
Scoring:
8,9 and 10 rings = 5
7 ring = 4 points
Within the silhouette and outside of rings = 3 points
To carry out a qualification attempt, one must be able to load, grip, aim and safely shoot 50 rounds of ammunition in a timed shooting exercise. If one is NOT properly prepared to shoot, that person will be dismissed from the range.
NOTE: I only book individuals in an around the 75783 area, up to 70 miles of that zip code. If your outside this area check with your local Firearm Range they typically offer the DPS Proficiency Test.
